Vanitas no Carte, Anime Recommendation!

January 27, 2023

Oh wow, why did I not check this anime out before? Not gonna lie, I am not the biggest fan of vampire stories. I don’t hate them or anything, it’s just that I won’t go out of my way to watch a vampire anime. But, this one had been long overdue for me. I finally checked out Vanitas no Carte and it was a complete treat for sure. It is easily among my favorite vampire animes now, probably only behind the Monogatari series.

So welcome back to another edition of our anime recommendation series. Let’s talk about Vanitas no Carte this week. I just checked it out and man, I am already a big fan of this anime. So let’s get started, there’s a lot to discuss!

Trio Vanitas no Carte | Vanitas, Anime, Animation studio

Introduction

Vanitas no Carte is based on the manga of the same name by Jun Mochizuki. The manga has been serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine. The manga is still ongoing. As for the anime, it has 1 season divided into 2 halves of 12 episodes each. We don’t have a confirmed 2nd season but, I feel like we will hear about it soon. The anime is made by Boes studio.

Plot

Vampires are born under the red moon and hence, have red eyes. The blue moon weakens them, but one day a vampire is born under the blue moon instead. Fearing his existence, the vampires treated him like an outcast. As revenge, the vampire of the blue moon, Vanitas made a book with the true names of all vampires, promising to bring ruin to all vampires one day. In the present day, a self-proclaimed “doctor” uses the name Vanitas and his book to cure vampires of curses instead, claiming to be the family of the vampire of the blue moon.

The Case Study of Vanitas | Anime-Planet

The story follows present-day Vanitas and Noe Archiviste as they investigate and cure curse-bearing vampires. Of course, it is not that simple, a lot of other stuff is going on. Vanitas no Carte has a really interesting plot and it is really well layered with multiple events occurring at once. The setting and plot alone are good enough reasons to watch this anime. I am about to give you more.

Characters

Vanitas no Carte has a lot of characters. What I love about the series is that even side characters get a really detailed back story but Noe and Vanitas, two characters we’ve been seeing this whole time, get their full back stories revealed pretty late in the series. But yes, the character writing is phenomenal, characters have a clear motive and reasons to work towards the said motive. Even the main antagonist is someone you hear about in almost all episodes.

Animations and Soundtracks

I have said this before, but I love Steampunk European settings. Vanitas no Carte really scratched that itch. I absolutely adore the look of Paris presented in the series, everything from the character designs to the clothing, to the abilities is presented so well. Studio Bones really knows how to make stuff good. And those animations, chefs kiss. Both the ending and opening themes are absolutely amazing.

Why should you watch Vanitas no Carte?

Quick pointers on why you should check out this anime:

  • Awesome plot
  • Great back stories
  • Great characters
  • Great art style
  • Good soundtracks

Vanitas no Carte

Conclusion

That is all for now. Vanitas no Carte is an amazing anime, you should really check it out. Let me know what you think in the comments and yeah, I will take my leave here. See ya!
