I stumbled onto this anime pretty randomly while going through some news stuff. My love for romance anime doesn’t seem to die down anytime soon and I had somehow stumbled onto one even without knowing what it is lol. Yes, Unnamed Memory is a romance anime and it looks to be pretty good.
Going by the poster and the name, I was expecting this series to be fantasy action or something along those lines. Well, it is fantasy but it turned out to be a romance instead lol.
So welcome back to another edition of Put This on Your Radar – the series where we talk about upcoming anime that caught my eye! Today we are talking about Unnamed Memory. So let’s get started.
What do we know about Unnamed Memory?
It is based on the LN of the same name by Furumiya Kuji and illustrated by Chibi. It was serialized online from January 2019 to April 2021. The LN is pretty short at just 6 volumes or 60 chapters. As for the anime, it will be made by ENGI studios. They have worked on a lot of stuff like Uzali-chan and World of Otome Games. It will be directed by Miura Kazuya. He has worked on storyboards for Evangelion and Food Wars and he was the director of The World of Otome Games as well. The anime is scheduled to come out sometime in 2024.
The story follows Oscar, a prince who is cursed such that any wife he takes will die. So he ascends to the top of a dangerous tower to meet with a witch who might be powerful enough to break his curse. But, the beautiful face of the witch sways his heart and he asks herย to be his wife. She agrees to live with him for the time being but just to work on breaking the curse. Tanezaki Atsumi and Nakajima Yoshiki will be starring as Tinasha, the witch, and Oscard respectively.

What do I think?
So, the story looks pretty good not gonna lie. It is a pretty good setup for a romance anime. A good way of combining romance and fantasy. There are not too many pure romance fantasy anime so it is good to see something new in this sub-genre. So yes, goes without I am pretty excited about it.
Now, my only concern is that ENGI isn’t that reputed of a studio. Their animation isn’t that high quality so yeah. Hopefully, given the nature of Unnamed Memory, the animations won’t matter too much.
