Villains in Naruto are something special. They are not people who want mindlessly destroy or rule the world. Despite all their despicable acts, you just cannot hate them and there is a good chance their deaths will make you cry except for Black Zetsu of course. That guy got what he deserved. In fact, he should have died a more painful death. Well for this list we are sticking to the relatable and “good” villains.

I don’t know if I need a spoiler warning for an anime almost everyone knows about but still, spoilers are bound to follow. If you don’t want spoilers, just read the names and not the description.

Momochi Zabuza

One of the 7 ninja swordsmen of the Mist, also known as the Demon of the Mist Zabuza is the first major villain in Naruto considering his debut was literally on the 6th episode. He and Haku are the main obstacles during team 7’s first mission. Even though he got very episodes, Zabuza’s character was really well written and he had a huge impact on Naruto’s personality and his death only made Naruto’s determination stronger. This fact is acknowledged by Kakashi when he was fighting a reincarnated Zabuza and then later by Naruto himself. Zabuza acted as a very cold person but as someone who really cared. He was one of the earliest influences on Naruto.

Uchiha Obito

Honestly, this list could have been all about the Uchihas. I mean even in making a general list, I ended up putting 3 Uchihas on the list. Well anyhow, Obito is easily one of the most relatable characters. He was someone just like Naruto and Naruto could have ended up like him. Madara used the poor man all his life and ended up hating the village he was supposed to be protecting. Madara set up the event that would trigger his “curse of hatred” entrusted his name and resurrection to him and then died.

It is like the poor guy did not have a life. He has used all his life and when he was trying to do something good, someone killed him. Even though you kinda hate him for most of Shippuden but when you learn his backstory, you can’t help but feel sad for him.

Pain

Yeah, this one is gonna be painful. Pain or Nagato was once a student of Jiraiya sensei same as Naruto. Madara planted his Rinnegan in Nagato when he was a child. When someone killed his parents, he awakened his Rinnegan and avenged them. Normally, a non-Uchiha would not be able to use a Rinnegan but Nagato had insane amounts of Chakra because of his hinted Uzumaki lineage hence, he was able to use those eyes very proficiently.

He and his friends who also studied under Jiraiya sensei started a group called “Akatsuki” to bring an end to the war. They grew in number so much that the Village’s leader Hanzou, felt threatened and ambushed them. He took one of his friends hostage and forced Nagato to kill another. Overcome by the pain of losing his childhood friend, he used his Rinnegan to kill everyone and took on the moniker “Pain”. He formed a new Akatsuki, Obito used it to collect the tailed beasts. Talk about a painful life.

He talked to Naruto at the end of their fight. Obito brought back everyone he had killed till that point and then died from the strain on his body by doing so. When he resurrected in the 4th war, he was very happy to see how stronger Naruto has grown.

Uchiha Madara

At this point, you should know who is on the number 1 spot. I spoke about Madara earlier in the list. He used Obito and was the indirect cause and the biggest threat in the 4th war. He was once the best friend of the First Hokage, Senju Hashirama, and a co-founder of the Konoha village.

He was easily one of the strongest known shinobi only second to the first Hokage himself. Even the current 5 Kage weren’t able to defeat him at like 50% of his strength. He had done so many horrible things over the years but you cannot bring yourself to hate him just because he is just so strong and cool. He was the mastermind of everything he was a puppet himself. Madara died realizing his mistakes, after having the last word with his best friend. He was a really cool character. Even though his death scene was rather short, it was very impactful.

Uchiha Itachi

Of course, this man is on first. While he may not be a villain per se, he acted as a villain for more than half of the series. This man massacred his entire clan to save his country from the coup d’etat his clan was planning. After that, he joined Akatsuki to spy on them and started acting a complete villain that.

There will a time when you will hate him for all he has done before and since joining Akatsuki but when he dies and everything about him revealed, you cannot help but feel sad for him like Sasuke. He easily had one of the most impactful deaths in the series. The opening of this part “sign” is easily one of the best openings and reflects how Sasuke and Naruto are feeling during this part very nicely. He is awesome.

Those were my picks for the top 5 villains in Naruto. Now your order may be different but I am pretty sure even you will arrive at the same picks. These villains play a huge part in making Naruto the great anime it is today. I don’t care if you like Boruto or not, it will never be able to get villains like these. As usual, stay tuned for more articles, and do not forget to check our awesome art section. With that being said, I will take my leave here. See ya!!
