MyAnimeList is probably the most popular anime database website out there. The scores aside, it is a fair way of determining how ‘popular’ an anime is. The Top 5 Upcoming Anime on MAL are similarly ranked by how many members have added them to their lists.
So in a way, it is reflective of what are the most popular upcoming anime. And there were quite a few anime I didn’t expect to be in the top 5 but they are.
So let’s take a look at the Top 5 Upcoming Anime according to MAL and let’s discuss everything we know about them so far along with it.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2
I am not surprised that Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is the most listed upcoming anime on MAL. Popular series, a much-anticipated sequel and it is coming sooner than others on this list too. In fact, it will start airing right from the next month. So not at all surprised by this entry. It is Mappa’s handiwork once again, as I said, it is coming next month and you can check out the new PV here.
Shield Hero Season 3
This is where the surprises start though. I didย notย expect Shield Hero Season 3 to rank number 2 on the list of Top 5 Upcoming anime. I thought the negative reception of Season 2 drove people away from the series. But apparently, there are still enough people looking forward to this season to propel it to number 2. Something like Solo Leveling is on number 8 for context.
Well, Shield Hero Season 3 comes out in the fall season of this year, that is in October. You can check out the teaser for it here.
Mushoku Tensei Season 2
Again, this is not a surprise. A much-awaited sequel to a popular albeit, divisive series. I am not surprised to see it on rank 3. Mushoku Tensei 2 comes out next month too, in the Summer of 2023 season. It is being made by Studio Bind again and you can check out its PV here.
KonoSuba Season 3
Now this is another surprise. I know KonoSuba is pretty popular but a season that doesn’t even have a release window yet is in the Top 5 Upcoming anime. That is pretty remarkable, I must say. We have no idea when this anime is coming. They didn’t even tell us if it is this year or next year. It will be made by Studio Drive, a fairly new studio and it doesn’t even have a teaser/PV yet.
Goblin Slayer Season 3
Another surprise. Once again, we don’t have any release info on Goblin Slayer Season 3 yet. We just know it is coming out this year. When? We have no idea. I’ll be honest, I did not know Goblin Slayer was this popular. It ranks above stuff like Spy x Family Season 2, Solo Leveling, etc. We haven’t had an update on this anime for a while. And I expect to see more news soon as Goblin Slayer Season 3 will most likely come up in the Fall season of 2023. You can check out the teaser here.
