Just when I start thinking that the upcoming fall and winter seasons cannot possibly be more stacked, another interesting-looking anime rolls up on my plate. That is the life of a content creator I guess. So here we are with another one of those, The Witch and The Beast.
This anime caught my eye because I am a sucker for goth animes. I have been spoiled by stuff like Vanitas no Karte and Black Buttler. So I think that anime does gothic themes pretty well. And the source material of this anime is pretty well-rated so I am even more optimistic.
So welcome back to another edition of Put This on Your Radar, the series where we talk about upcoming anime that caught my eye. Today we are taking a look at The Witch and The Beast. So let’s get started!
What do we know about The Witch and The Beast so far?
The anime will be based on the manga of the same name by Satake Kousuke. The manga has been serialized in the Monthly Young Magzine since November 2016. As for the anime, it will be made by Yokohama Animation Lab, they haven’t had a major breakout project yet. Although, they did work on the truly underrated, A Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation out of Debt. It will be directed by Hamana Takayuki, he has done storyboarding and episode direction for stuff like Pyscho-Pass, Kuroko no Basuke, and The Last: Naruto the Movie.
The anime will star Tachi You and Morikawa Toshiyuki as the main duo. The story is about Guideau and Ashaf trying to bring down a witch who has convinced a whole town that she is their savior. The anime is set to come out in the Winter 2024 season, with no locked release date yet, We recently got our first teaser promo, which you can check out right here.
That covers all the news. So let’s move on to
What do I think?
I think that this anime can be pretty good. As I said earlier, I am a sucker for goth anime and this fits the bill perfectly. The story sounds interesting and the reviews I read on MAL point to a well-executed plot. So it should be pretty exciting to see it in animation. I do like the art style of this series, really tickles my goth fancy.
Now I do have some worries though. Yokohama Animation Lab is a relatively inexperienced studio and the director has not had a majorย directorial role from what I have seen. But he has worked on a lot of anime though. But as always, I like to stay hopeful. So hopefully all this worrying will be for nothing in the future.
Conclusion
That is all for now. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I think The WItch and The Beast have potential and may end up being good like A Genius Prince’s Guide. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
