This is one of the animes that I caught up to fairly recently. I am pretty much watching all ongoing anime in this season at this point. And being a rom-com lover, I’d have definitely checked this anime out at some point. But you know, we need content according to the season I just went ahead and watched it. Let me tell you, The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague is a complete treat to watch for rom-com people like me.
So welcome back to another one of my mid-season reviews. Today we are taking a look at The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague. I shortened the title a bit because if I put the full name in the title… Well, it’d be too long. Anyhow, I think this anime is pretty interesting and I have quite a bit to say about it. So let’s get started.
What do I think about The Ice Guy and his Cool Female Colleague so far?
The best way I can put is The Ice Guy is a mixture between Horimiya and Wotakoi. That is the best way I can find to describe it. Obviously, it is way different than those two but, there is something familiar about this anime too. Seriously, it makes me feel like I am watching Horimiya again for whatever reason. I guess it is because of Fuyutsuki but, I digress.
What I love the most about The Ice Guy is that some characters are descendants of particular spirits from Japanese folklore. Our MC for instance is a descendant of the Ice Lady. Hence he ends up making ice/snow around him depending on the emotion he’s feeling. There are more characters like this too. I love how this anime uses each character’s unique “ability” to showcase their emotions. It is done in a really good way; sometimes even if a character doesn’t say anything, you know how they’re feeling because of this.
The spirit thing can also be taken as “metaphorical” because it helps showcase the character’s emotions. It is a good concept and helps this anime stand out among other rom-coms. And the MC is literally a “cool guy” in this case. This anime definitely has a lot going for it, a cool new concept, good characters, nice animations, and a really vibe-y opening. Seriously go watch the opening, the song and the direction are incredible.
Conclusion
I think I’ve made it pretty clear that I’ve been enjoying The Ice Guy a lot so far. I think it is pretty entertaining and a bit of a unique take on a rom-com. As things stand right now, this anime is an easy 8/10, recommend in my book. Preliminary score yes, but for this anime in particular, I doubt it will change much down the line.
That is all for now though. Those were my thoughts and opinions on The Ice Guy and his Cool Female Colleague. Let me know what you think in the comments. And I will take my leave here. See ya!
