Tensei Kenja no Isekai Life has been one of the most surprising animes for me this season. I expected a typical isekai, while that is true in many ways this anime still manages to feel relatively distinct and entertaining. I don’t know how to put it best. But like this anime is really good and it is much better than it has any right to be. We have a lot of isekais this season and this is definitely my favorite along with the pharmacy one.
I know I have talked about this anime before in a first impressions article but, I want to shed some more light on this. That article was like 3 weeks ago and my perspective has changed since then.
So well I am here to talk about what I think of this series so far. I am all caught up with the series, at the time of writing, episode 7 is the latest episode. Of course, this is a preliminary review, my views may change depending on the rest of the episodes. So well, let’s get into it.
Plot
Tensei Kenja follows Yuuji. An office worker who was isekai’d into a video game-like world. He finds that his character class is “tamer”. While wandering around, he stumbles across a building containing a lot of grimoires. He tames the slimes he finds there and studies the grimoires this grants him his 2nd class, Sage. He then sets on an adventure to explore the world.
Of course, that is not all Tensei Kenja has to offer. Yuuji soon gets entangled with the wrongdoings of a cult of sorts. He is trying his best to stop them from harming people while staying out of their radar as much as possible. I also like that the story is continuously changing its locations, Yuuji likes to travel and this is good. This gives us a more detailed look at the world. So far, even though the plot is using a few cliches it is pretty good.
Characters
As you’d expect from the nature of the story, Tensei Kenja has a lot of characters. Now because most characters get like 2-3 episodes of screentime they’re not that well written. But, there is still a decent diversity in characters in the series. As for the characters who stay longer like Yuuji or even his slimes or wolf, they’re actually pretty well done. Like Yuuji’s wolf legit gets a short backstory and character development of his own. I also like that the anime doesn’t have any kinds of harem/romance implications like all other isekais till now.
Animations and Soundtracks
Tensei Kenja has a really good art style. The animations aside, I really do dig the art style of this anime. It feels very different for some reason. The animations are pretty ok. They really do show up when they need to, Yuuji’s abilities really do look amazing at times. As for the soundtracks, I really do like some of the BGM in this anime. And the opening and ending themes are fantastic. The ending theme is especially funny.
Conclusion
Well, here are my initial ratings for Tensei Kenja:
- Plot – 7/10
- Characters – 6/10
- Animations – 7/10
- Soundtracks – 8/10
- Enjoyment – 8/10
- Need more anime with an op tamer MC – 10/10
- Overall – 7/10
Well, that is all for now. Let me know how you like Tensei Kenja so far. I am really looking forward to seeing where the series goes from here. With that said though, I will take my leave here. I have to go and finish up the last remaining bits of GAA. Still can’t believe people actually liked that random game. Yes, I am taking shots, I don’t like it when people put PvP in a gacha game or make an MMO into a gacha. See ya!!
