Continuing on with our spring 2022 first impressions series, this time we are talking about Spy x Family. An anime I really have been looking forward to ever since I stumbled upon the manga. The second episode hasn’t come out yet but, I cant wait to see Yor. I really like her and she is voiced by Saori Hayami which makes it even better. But this anime has been really good so far and I cant wait to see more.
And first of all, a huge shoutout to Muse Asia. They somehow got their hands on this masterpiece and thanks to them you can watch it for free on YouTube. May their subs grow, I love the work they are doing. Well, that all aside these are just my first impressions and my views may change over time. With that said, let’s get started.
Plot
Spy x Family has a very unique and funny setting. It is about the daily life of an adoptive family in which the father is a spy, the mother is an assassin and the kid is an esper who knows the secrets of her parents. The couple dont know who the other person is and yet continue to live together. The kid knows their secrets but keeps it to herself since she finds it “cool”.
Yes, it is as simple as that. This simple yet unique plot allows for some really good comedy. At the same time though, Spy x Family hits you with more than enough twists to keep you interested. As I said, the mother, Yor hasn’t been introduced in the anime yet but the upcoming episode 2 will have her. Despite being a mainly comedy series, Spy x Family does have a pretty good plot relating to politics and all kinds of stuff.
Characters
Spy x Family only has 3 main characters. We haven’t seen Yor yet so I won’t talk about her but, she is an entirely different beast. Loid is a great guy, he sees his childhood in Anya which is why he risks his identity to rescue her. He takes his job really seriously and is a very diligent worker. Anya is just a gem. She is so adorable and she really tries her best to be considerate and act like a good girl. She is such a good kid.
Animations and Soundtracks
Spy x Family has some really good animations. The animations are really faithful to the original art style and I like that. They did a great job on getting Anya’s meme faces right too and that first episode direction was really well done. As for the soundtracks, I think the BGM is surprisingly good. I haven’t heard the opening yet but I am pretty sure it will be awesome too.
Conclusion
