I purposefully held out this review for so long. My views on this anime shifted a lot throughout the season and I finally think my views about it are set in stone now. Yes, I don’t think my views on Shikimori-san will change anymore no matter the last 2 episodes. Also, I should mention that the moment my views really shifted was after that whole arc with Kamiya; that was one good arc.
So well welcome back to another one of my reviews. Today we are talking about Shikimori-san, I rather divisive anime. To be honest, I think the anime is fine it is just that people had too much expectations from it because of My Dress-up Darling. Welp, anyhow here are my views on it.
Plot
Shikimori-san is like your typical rom-com anime but with the roles of the MCs reversed. The male MC, Izumi is the softer one here rather than the usual. Izumi has a sort of tendency of attracting bad luck and sometimes it is the dangerous kind of bad. Of course, his girl saves him in such situations.
That is about it really. Shikimori-san is a slice-of-life rom-com anime. It is simply about a group of friends living off their lives, having fun, and with a few quirks here and there. It has a lot of your typical romantic anime troupe but, it does manage to make them different enough to make them fun. I had some issues with the pacing in the beginning but, they were resolved later on. It is pretty entertaining anime all in all.
Characters
This is the real joy of Shikimori-san in my opinion. Characters make or break a slice of life/rom-com anime and this, well this has some really memorable characters. Nekozaki, Inuzuka, Hachimitsu, and Shikimori herself, all of them are really great characters. My personal favorite has to be Hachimitsu though, she’s so relatable. Shikimori has some really high waifu value. I had some problems with Izumi in the beginning but, I am happy to say I kind of like him now. He’s still not my favorite or anything but, I like him more now than I did earlier.
Animations and Soundtracks
Shikimori-san has an amazing art style. The characters look great and quite unique. The animations are pretty smooth and they did a pretty good job on them. As for the animation quality, it is ok but you won’t notice it much because the art style is so good. I have improved views about almost everything in this anime but, unfortunately, my beef with the OST selection never ended. I love the opening and ending themes but the OST selection is kind of turning off.

One of the best rival characters, period.
Conclusion
Here are my final scores for Kawaii Dake ja nai Shikimori-san:
- Plot – 7/10
- Characters – 9/10
- Animations – 8/10
- Soundtracks – 6/10
- Enjoyment – 8/10
- New waifu – 10/10
- Overall – 8/10
Well, those were my genuine and honest views on Shikimori-san. It was a kind of mixed bad I have to say, there was some good and some bad. But, all in all, it is an entertaining anime for sure. And the fact that the Muse Network got this to us for free makes it even better. Well with that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!!
