I just came out of Renai Flops episode 8. Just what the hell happened in this? I was not planning on talking about this anime in an article but the episode 8 reveal was so big that it blew my mind away. So I watched one episode of this anime and chalked it up as another rom-com but one of my buddies hit me and told me to watch it till episode 8, and oh boy. I did not expect that.
So let’s talk about Renai Flops today. I don’t know what I should call this article, I am just here to discuss a crazy plot twist in a random anime. Heads up though, do not believe any of the marketing material or pre-episode 7 reviews/summary for this anime. Do not put this anime down after 2-3 episodes, it has a really big twist in episode 8, don’t miss that.
Well, with all that out of the way, let’s get started. Of course, spoilers are ahead. Because I will be discussing the major plot elements of episodes 7 and 8. So let’s get started.
About Episodes 7 and 8…
So Renai Flops starts off as a standard rom-com. And a rather cringe-inducing one at that. I have a pretty high tolerance for cringe/cliche stuff like this but some moments even made me cringe. Like seriously, some of the moments in this anime are poisonously sweet. If that continued, I wouldn’t have watched this anime after 3 or 4 episodes and probably would have scored this a 3 or 4/10.

I swear she looks just like the Ai-Chan Valk, Chrono Navi from Honkai Impact 3rd
But after episode 7 though? Everything changes. This anime basically pulls off a Matrix on you. Yup, everything you saw from episodes 6-7 never actually happened. And the best thing about that twist is, if you rewatch the anime after knowing this, your perspective completely changes. Little signs and inconsistencies had always been there pointing to this reveal but the anime is so goofy that it successfully distracts you from those reveals.
The tone of Renai Flops completely changes as episode 7 rolls through. By the end of episode 7, you’re left with a lot of questions. Episode 8 does answer some of those questions but it also purposefully lets some stuff hang because there are 4 more episodes to go. But what this anime did is not something a lot of people would have the guts to pull off. It is totally crazy and more animes should try something different like this.
Conclusion
So in short, don’t trust the reviews on this anime. Just watch it yourself. Yes I know, Renai Flops does get very cringey at certain points but episodes 7 and 8 more than makeup for it in my opinion. I will do a full review on it later once more episodes have rolled through. This series jumped from a 4/10 to 7-8/10 in the span of 2 episodes. Not a lot of animes can do that and I applaud them for it.
Well, that is all for now though, let me know what you guys think in the comments. Go and watch Renai Flops for yourself, only then will the reveal hit hard. With that said though, I will take my leave here. See ya!
