Yes, we have all heard the awesome opening theme of this anime. It is easily one of the best, if not the best opening theme of the season. But, how good is Paripi Koumei really? Is it worth watching? Well, in short, it is awesome. As for the long answer, we’re here to discuss that today. The series has some genuinely great moments and the awesome sound design makes the series well worth the watch.
Well, welcome back to another mid-season review. This time we are talking about Paripi Koumei, a strong contender for the best anime of the season. This anime does a great job of drawing the audience in with a catchy soundtrack and then introducing them to something deeper and touching. With that said, let’s get started.
Paripi Koumei is based on the manga of the same name written by Yotsuya Yuuto and illustrated by Ogawa Ryou. The manga started its serialization in Comic Days on 31st December 2019 and is currently ongoing. The anime is, of course, currently airing. It is 8 episodes in as of the time of writing and is being animated by PA Works.
Paripi Koumei is the story of the famous Chinese tactician, Zhuge Liang. He gets reincarnated into modern-day Shibuya after his death. He first thinks he is in Hell but, later realizes that is not the case. He soon meets Eiko, a performer working at a club, and is intrigued by her performance. He later decides to become Eiko’s “tactician” and help her spread her music and singing to many people.
What do I think of the series so far?
Once again, what I am about to say is completely subjective so, feel free to disagree with me.
If you have been here for a while, you’d know I have a soft spot for good music-related anime. I can’t hate a good music-based anime even if it is something as divisive/lackluster as Takt: Op. Paripi Koumei plays really well in that soft spot of mine. It does have some really good music but, aside from that it also has a certain level of depth to it and I love this anime for that.
Eiko is a really good protagonist. She has her issues, she has her flaws and she has goals. She is a very simple and sincere child who just wants to spread her music to a lot of people. She is extremely happy when someone (Koumei for instance) praises her music. Koumei himself is well… Koumei. He is an extremely smart and genuinely good and stubborn person. He wants the best for Eiko and always works hard for her.
It is a very entertaining series with some catchy soundtracks and a certain level of depth. I give Paripi Koumei a solid 8 for now, of course, the rating may change by the time of the final review.
Welp, that does it for now. I’ll now return to my programming homework. Paripi Koumei is a great anime and more people should check it out instead of just listening to the opening theme. With that said though, I will take my leave here. See ya!!
