Onimai or Onii-chan wa Oshimai is the epitome of “don’t judge a manga by its title” combined with a bit of “I swear this is not what it looks like”. It sounds like a cheesy incest anime from the title but, I swear it is not. This series is actually pretty “wholesome” if you think about it. I have to say, this is one of the more surprising SOL comedies I’ve read. It is very misleading because of the title and art but, trust me this is some good comedy.
So well Onimai is finally getting an anime and I am pretty pumped about it. We recently got some more details about the upcoming anime so we are here to talk about that. Before that though, I’ll start off with a short intro to the manga because I am pretty sure a lot of people don’t know about it. Feel free to skip to the news section though.
Introduction
Onimai or Onii-chan wa Oshimai is a manga written by Nekotoufu. It started its serialization on 27th June 2018. It is still ongoing slice-of-life comedy anime. The manga is about Mahiro Oyama, who is your typical shut-in gamer. One day this guy wakes up and he has been turned into a loli. This was the result of an experiment by his mad-scientist little sister. Well as you’d expect, his new form complicates stuff a lot and that is what makes this manga fun.
What do we know about the Onimai anime?
Well, the official website of Onimai anime revealed a bunch of cool info earlier today (12th August) along with the first PV of the anime. The anime will be made by Studio Bind, the same studio as Mushoku Tensei. And fittingly enough, one of the episode directors of Mushoku Tensei will be heading this project. And we also have the same series composer as Jahy-sama and the anime will be produced by Egg Firm. You can check out the PV here.
They also revealed the main cast members but that concludes all the news we have for now on Onimai. So let’s move on to my ramblings section.
Expectations
Onimai is one of those types of mangas I like to read to unwind. Simple, fun, almost non-sensical at times. The manga never takes itself too seriously, it knows it has an absurd plot and it embraces it. That is what makes this series fun for me. Absurd/cliche plots can absolutely work well if the author knows exactly what they want. A good example of this is Misfit of the Demon King Academy, the show has a lot of isekai and fantasy cliches in it but, it embraces them and executes them in an extremely satisfying manner.
So what I mean to say is, that I am pretty sure Onimai will find its foothold rather easily in the community. I know a lot of people like these kinds of animes just, including me. So I am really excited for this anime to drop and thankfully, it is not too far away. Just another 3 and half months to go.
Conclusion
Well, that’s all for now. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. Onimai should be fun to watch anime, I am just worried that it may scare off potential watchers because its name sounds like an incest anime. Well, we’ll see about that though. With that said, I will take my leave here. I have to clean up the remaining stuff on the Golden Apple Archipelago. People really thought a random new game had a chance. See ya!!
