Of course, we all know and love this anime. If you’re like me, you probably even remember the first time you saw this anime. Oh, how I wish I could watch No Game No Life for the first time again. But man, even after all these years and no sequel (yes, we are still mad about it Madhouse) NGNL is one of the best animes I’ve watched to date. It doesn’t get boring even after repeated rewatches and it is a complete experience for the first timers.
So welcome back to another edition of our anime recommendation series! Today we are talking about the beloved No Game No Life or NGNL (for the sake of my SEO). Easily one of the most iconic animes ever made and an anime with a significant number of loyal fans begging for a sequel to this day.
Introduction
NGNL is based on the LN of the same name by Kamiya Yuu. It started its serialization in April 2012 and it is still ongoing believe it or not. No, it is not on hiatus, but it is actually ongoing. Of course, the anime is made by Madhouse. It has one season of 12 episodes and a prequel movie. Even after all these years, we have absolutely nothing about the sequel. Sad.
Plot
NGNL is an isekai at its core but, you’ll soon forget that. Genius gamer siblings, Sora and Shiro are contacted by the god of games and transported to another world after beating him in a game of chess. In this new world, everything, every single conflict from minor bickering to major wars is resolved using games. And yes, any kind of game does the trick as long as both parties agree to it.
Right off the bat, NGNL has an interesting premise. But, what you don’t immediately see is the amount of world-building and plot twists this anime will throw at you. I won’t spoil anything because if you haven’t watched the anime, the surprise factor really makes it better. But the amount of world-building done in just 12 episodes is kinda insane. And don’t even get me started on the plot twists ^^.
Characters
NGNL doesn’t have that many characters but all of the major characters are pretty well-written. Be it Sora or Shiro who appears in every episode or be it Tet, who appears in only like 2 episodes. All of the important characters are super well-written and have distinct personalities. Heck, even the previous king of humans who died before the anime started gets some good character writing. So yeah, you’ll enjoy the characters for sure. Sora and Shiro though are unbeatable.
Animations and Soundtracks
The animations do look a bit dated at this point. The art style however is rather unique. It uses a very bright color palette and really embraces fantasy influences. Props to Madhouse for preserving the LN’s art style in the anime. As for soundtracks, you may already know that NGNL has one of the most iconic opening themes of all time. I don’t remember the ending theme as much but BGMs are pretty decent as well.
Why should you watch NGNL?
Quick pointers on why you should check out this anime:

Conclusion
That is all for now. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. And yeah, I’ll take my leave here. Be sure checkout NGNL this week, I don’t care if you’ve already watched it or not! See ya!!
