Of course, we know about this series. I am also fairly certain I have done a manga recommendation on it before but, some interesting stuff happened recently. So I felt like talking about it and well, here we are. My Dress Up Darling is what you get when you combine fan service with a great waifu and some good plot and characters. It is a blend of these 3 things that made this series so popular.

So welcome back to another edition of our manga recommendation series. This week we are taking a look at a manga we all know and love, My Dress Up Darling. This will probably be a bit long so let’s start right away.
Introduction
So My Dress Up Darling is written and illustrated by Fukuda Shinichi. It started its serialization on 19th January 2018 in the Young Gangan Magazine and it is of course ongoing. Of course, we also have a very successful anime adaptation of the manga as well by Clover Works which just came out in like this year’s winter season.
I have to say this though, the anime adaptation really pumped the popularity of My Dress Up Darling by a good bit. Even 2 seasons later, we just can’t get this anime out of our heads. And you know, I have no idea how many people became long-term simps of Marin. The manga absolutely holds up to the praise that the anime got.
Plot
We all know the plot of My Dress Up Darling by this point. It is about a loner, Gojou Wakana who one day finds out that his school’s idol, Kitagawa Marin loves cosplay. So he decides to help her as she does not know how to make costumes at all. This is how their friendship starts and through every cosplay things progress a bit further.
It is a pretty standard romantic, SOL-type plot mixed with a bit of cosplay. It is not too complicated and it serves its purpose well enough by allowing the characters to shine. No one reads/watches My Dress Up Darling for the plot anyway. It is either for the characters (and their relationship) or the fan service or for both, like me.
Characters
This is where the series shines. My Dress Up Darling prefers the quality over quantity approach when it comes to characters. For the most part, we only have Gojou and Marin and later they are joined by the Inui sisters. I don’t need to say people like Marin so much right? Most of us are just down bad. I have to praise Gojou though, he is one of the rare rom-com MCs that I think deserve their girls. I really don’t think most rom-com MCs deserve their girls.
Art
My Dress Up Darling has some really good art. I love the bright art style, the art style is not overly complex and it fits the vibe of the series really well. I sometimes have beef with the background art but no complaints about the character art or design.
