No no, this anime/manga has no relation to the brilliant Monogatari series by Nishio Isshin. This series though is excellent in its own right. I was first drawn in by the name “Monogatari”, wondering if it has something to do with the series. Then I saw it had nothing to do with Nishio Isshin but still looked interesting so, I continued reading the manga. And man, I am glad I did so.
So well, I will start off with an introduction to the series as usual for these kinds of articles. Feel free to skip the news section if you want but, Monogatari deserves an introduction since it is pretty good. Let’s get started right away.
Introduction
Monogatari manga is written and illustrated by Onigunsou. It began its serialization on 15th April 2014 in the Miracle Jump magazine and later switched over to Ultra Jump. The manga is also available on Shonen Jump+. Monogatari is still ongoing with volume 13 being the latest volume. This supernatural action manga has some great plot points and good pacing with a touch of some nice action.
In Monogatari, ghosts called Tsukumogami exist, and they usually possess objects. They can violent or gentle and it is the job of the Saenome clan to peacefully send them back to the afterlife. The protagonist, Hyouma is a member of the clan but he holds a grudge against the ghosts. Fearing that he may cause some trouble, his grandfather sends him to live with a storage girl, who treats the Tsukumogami as her family. Can Hyouma overcome his hatred?
What do we know about the Monogatari anime?
So Shogakukan-Shueisha productions opened an official website for Monogatari this Wednesday and revealed a bunch of information for use. We go the main staff and main cast announcement. Takeo Ootsuka and Yuuki Takada are playing the roles of Hyouma and Botan respectively. The series will be directed by Yuuichi Kimura, I couldn’t find anything substantial to his name but I hope he does a good job.
Monogatari will be animated by Bandai Namco Pictures, which is pretty much the equivalent of Sunrise. And we all know Sunrise does a pretty damn good job on an anime. They also revealed a teaser visual and promo video for us. You can check out the promo video here.
Expectations
I do have fairly high expectations from Monogatari. The promo looks pretty good and the manga has been pretty promising so far. I also love how Hyouma looks very much like Eren from AoT. The plot is pretty decent, it may sound average on the surface but it does get pretty deep. I really hope the anime can bring in the much-needed attention to the series. Fortunately, the series is in pretty good hands so I look forward to it.
Conclusion
That is all for now. Monogatari looks really good so far and I am fairly excited about it. I know Bandai Namco Pictures can handle anime really well so I hope they work their magic on this series as well. With that said though, I will take my leave here. See ya!!
