Key takeaways from Medalist news:
- Medalist anime adaptation: The upcoming anime adaptation of the manga “Medalist” by Tsurumaikada, known for its beautiful art and ice skating theme. I’m concerned about ENGI Studios’ involvement in the project.
- Concerns about ENGI Studios: I worry about ENGI Studios’ history of bad animations and poor adaptations, which may affect the visual impact of the “Medalist” anime.
- Remaining hopeful: Despite my concerns, I remain optimistic. It’s too early to judge the adaptation solely based on ENGI’s past works. Perhaps they’ll surprise us, as Doga Kobo did with “Oshi no Ko.”
When I say, ice skating and anime in a single sentence, the first thing you’d think of would be Yuri on the Ice, right? While maybe not as impactful as Yuri, this manga is really good too. And I am glad that it is getting an anime adaptation but, something concerns me.
Medalist is an awesome manga and I really recommend checking it out. So why am I worried about the anime adaptation? Well, I will talk about that in a moment. Let’s get over the news first.
So welcome back to another one of my news articles. Today I will be talking about the Medalist anime adaptation. So let’s get started with the news without wasting any more time.
What do we know about Medalist anime adaptation?
The anime will be based on the manga of the same name by Tsurumaikada. The manga has been serialized in the Afternoon magazine since May 2020 and is still ongoing. It has been published digitally in English by Kodansha since May 2021 and as I mentioned, it is about ice skating. It is known for its beautiful art style and compelling characters.
The anime will be made by ENGI Studios and it will be directed by Yamamoto Yasutaka. Yamamoto has worked on a lot of anime in the past, most recently, he was the director of Aharen-san. Since the anime was just announced by Kadokawa, we don’t have a teaser/PV yet. We only got a key visual but I expect to see updates soon.
So… uhh, let’s address the elephant in the room now, shall we?
Regarding my Concerns…
So the veteran weebs among you may already have noticed the issue. Yes, ENGI. That studio is infamous for its bad animations and occasional bad adaptations, Yeah, you can see why this is a concern, right? MEdalist is a series famous for its beautiful visuals and a bad adaptation can really take away from the impact of the series. Seeing ENGI working on it, really made me sad somewhere inside.
But this is all based on their past work though. Maybe they can pull a surprise on us as Doga Kobo did with Oshi no Ko. Doesn’t hurt to remain hopeful, right? Maybe they will blow us away with a surprise. Am I gripping at straws here? Maybe. But as I said, it doesn’t hurt to remain positive.
Conclusion
That is all for now. Let me know what you guys think in the comments below. I know a lot of people are disappointed to see ENGI working on Medalist but, I think it is too early to doompost. With that said though, I will take my leave here. See ya!!
