I had heard a lot about this manga. Didnโt really interest me at first but, man I was so wrong about this one. It is exceptionally good. The plot has amazing pacing and things arenโt dragged out for any longer than necessary. Aside from that the setting and plot itself are pretty damn unique.
You have read the title, this week we are talking about Pandora Hearts. The name weirded me out a little at first but, don’t let that fool you. This manga is so much different than what you can think of. So let’s start with the details.
Introduction
Pandora Hearts is written and illustrated by Mochizuki Jun. It was serialized in the GFantasy magazine from 18th May 2006 to 18th May 2015. Yes, that is true, I don’t think I have seen another manga that started and ended on the exact same date. It is 24 volumes or 107 chapters long. Which is pretty short. So, Pandora Hearts is the 80th highest-rated manga on MAL.
Pandora Hearts is a mystery fantasy manga. It borrows some elements from classic English stories and stuff and It is a pretty rare type of manga with a very unique setting. It is really well done and I recommend it if you want to read some high fantasy stuff. So let’s talk about each element in some more detail.
Plot
Pandora Hearts is set in a toy box-style world called the Abyss. The Abyss is full of weird monsters called “Chains”. The story follows Oz as he tries to find out about his past sins and a way to escape the Abyss with the help of a unique Chain, Alice. The plot sounds straightforward on paper but, as you may expect it isn’t that simple. There are a lot of plot twists awaiting you.
Pandora Hearts deserves an A+ in the plot pacing and setting. The setting is so well built upon and used throughout the plot. It kind of reminds me of Five Nights at Freddy’s a little bit, that may just be me. As for the pacing, the author knows really well when to feed you plot twists and stuff to keep you invested in the manga.
Characters
Pandora Hearts has quite a few characters. Even though I personally am not fond of Oz, I think he is a very well-written character. My personal favorite characters have to be Alice and Xerxes. They have this mysterious air about them. It is never clear what they exactly want. All of the characters are really well written.
Art
Pandora’s Hearts has good art. It is not the best thing out there but I do love the character designs a lot. The art is of course subjective but, it works well with the manga. It is not god-tier art, I have definitely seen better but it is not really bad either. It is in the middle ground but, it works just fine like this.
Why you should read Pandora Hearts?
Quick pointers on why you should check this manga out:
