Welcome back, it is the 15th week of our weekly recommendation series. This week I have a manga that I stumbled on recently after hearing the news of it getting an anime adaptation. It is a surprisingly good and funny manga. Even the sheer premise of it sounds stupid but, works out really well.
You have read the title; you know this week we are talking about Kaijin Kaihatsubu no Kuroitsu-san. For convenience, I will refer to it as just “Kuroitsu-san” for the rest of the article. Before we start, remember that this is a recommendation and not a review so I won’t be pointing out any negatives or giving out scores.
So let’s start.
Introduction
Kuroitsu-san is a fairly new manga. It started serialization on 17th April 2019 and it is written and illustrated by Mizusaki Hiroaki. It is published online in Flex Comix’s Comic Meteor. It currently has 2 volumes and I don’t know how many chapters. It is also about to get an anime adaptation by Quad in next year January.
Kuroitsu-san is a fantasy-comedy manga that is really funny and has a simple plot. It is a perfect manga to read while relaxing. Even if you are not relaxing, the manga has a surprising amount of detail in it too. Overall, if you love a good comedy manga this is really good for you.
Plot
As I said earlier, Kuroitsu-san has a rather simple plot. The plot is center on Kuroitsu Touka who works for a comically evil organization called Agastya who are trying to take over the world. Kuroitsu-san is an assistant researcher in the monster development department and she makes monsters to fight the heroes. That is literally it, it is that simple.
The simple plot really helps in the mood and the feel Kuroitsu-san is trying to achieve. You know, it is fun and it is carefree. At the same time, it is not completely without plot-less and the plot does progress.
Characters
There are not too many characters in Kuroitsu-san as of now but the best ones have to be Kuroitsu-san herself and Wolf. Kuroitsu-san is a rather eccentric character and her reaction towards stuff is really funny. To her, her real enemy is her boss rather than the heroes and she has constant fights with her boss. Goes without saying, they are really funny.
Art
The art is fairly average and that’s fine. Because it goes really well with the tone of the manga and helps it in refining the feel further. So it just works.
Why you should read Kuroitsu-san?
Here are some quick pointers on why you should check out this anime.
- Easy to understand plot
- Really funny
- Some decent characters
- Really short as of now
- Unique setting
Conclusion
That is it for now. Let me know your thoughts down in the comments. If you have any manga you want me to check out, leave it down below as well. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
