It has been 11 weeks since we started our recommendation series. Here we are, back with another recommendation. This week, we have something I genuinely love. It is one of the best rom-com manga for me, if not the best. I was an anime-only a few days ago and I randomly decided to pick this manga up 3-4 days ago.
You have read the title, you know we are talking about Kaguya Sama. Even if you have watched the anime, there is still much to enjoy in the manga. Not to mention, the manga is way ahead of the anime. Before we start, I’d like to remind you that this is a recommendation and not a review. Hence, I won’t be pointing out any negatives.
So let’s get started
Introduction
Kaguya Sama is the 15th highest-rated manga on MAL. It is written and illustrated by Akasaka Aka. It started its serialization on 19th May 2015 in the Young Jump magazine and is still ongoing. At the time of writing, chapter 236 is the latest chapter, and volume 24th is the latest volume.
Kaguya Sama is hands down one of the best and most famous rom-com. It is just something else with the comedy and all. The pacing of the manga is quite different from the anime so you can enjoy the manga even if you have watched the anime and vice versa.
Plot
The plot of Kaguya Sama is really simple. There are the protagonists, Shirogane Miyuki and Shinomiya Kaguya who like each other but refuse to confess because of their pride. The anime is literally about them using all sorts of methods at their disposal to force the other person to confess. Simply put, it is like the Death Note of rom-com mangas.
The plot is really simple and it gives freedom to the comedy. A comedy needs to have a simple plot for the reader to appreciate the jokes. This plot creates a good room for comedy along with moments of seriousness while actually making something different and interesting. This occasional seriousness and character development along with the comedy make Kaguya Sama unique.

Characters
Kaguya Sama takes the quality over quantity approach when it comes to the characters. There are literally only like 5-6 important characters but all of them are done well. Ishigami, a character you don’t pay much attention to in the beginning has one of the best character arcs. His character arc literally feels like something out of Oregairu.
The character development is good. There is some character development even in the funny parts. It is a story centered around the characters hence, the author really pays attention when it comes to them.
Art
The art is just awesome. The best part about the art has to be the reactions. The reaction faces in Kaguya Sama, are just something else. They add so much to the humor of the manga. Aside from that, the art is really clean and the characters are rather well-drawn and detailed.
