So I am pretty sure you’ve all seen the fanarts and random clips from this anime so far. This anime is popping right now, and you know I got curious and checked it out. I was ready to find a mediocre waifu bait anime like Darling in the Franxxx or Detective is Already Dead. No, it doesn’t matter how much you scream, the only thing good about Darling in the Franxxx was Zero Two and maybe Ichigo. But Lycoris Recoil actually surprised me.
Do you want to see some James Bind mixed with a bit of Death Note ideology but with waifus? You’ve come to the right place. You see Lycoris recoil may look so happy and bright on the surface but the world it presents is rather dark. That is what surprised me more than Chisato. Of course, I knew she was a top-tier waifu. So well, I’ll start off with an introduction to the anime, and then put down my thoughts on it.
Well, there is not much to talk about here honestly. Lycoris Recoil is an original anime by A1 Pictures. It just started airing on 2nd July 2022 and it is currently ongoing. If I remember correctly, episode 4 is currently the latest released episode. The opening theme is “ALiVE” by ClariS and the ending theme is “Hana no Tou” by Sayuri. And both of those are awesome.
What do I think of Lycoris Recoil?
Why is Lycoris Recoil so popular right now? Well, that is because of Chisato. And I feel like she is going to be in the waifu race for a long time depending on how the anime continues. Even I started watching this anime because I really liked her bright personality. Her voice performance is done exceptionally well. One of the best ones in the season so far without a doubt. Great job, Anzai Chika. I look forward to more of her works.
Is Chisato the only reason Lycoris Recoil is good? NO. It is a really good anime even without Chisato. Sure, it is popular because of her but A1 Pictures had a pretty good foundation for the story. Chisato is the icing on the top. The world depicted is really something. It is kind of a utopian setting where crime does not exist and criminals are killed by this secret organization. So far, they are doing a good job of handling the setting, I hope they keep it that way.
And finally, the animations, the art style, and the soundtracks really bring it all together. A1 Pictures really went hard on Lycoris Recoil. I love how the animations instantly switch to a darker tone whenever action scenes are going on. The fights are very smooth and fast, and the gun physics are surprisingly well accounted for. They sure did have a good budget for this, double thumbs up to A1 Pictures.
Well, that is it for now. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. As things stand, I will give Lycoris Recoil a solid 8 out of 10. This of course is subject to change depending on how the season goes. With that said though, I will take my leave here. See ya!
