I haven’t even started the article and already I’ve misspelled “insomnia” as “isomnia”… fun start. Well, a friend put me on this series and told me it has an upcoming anime, so I checked it out saying “why not?”. I am hungry for content as always. So I checked out Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia and I actually quite like it. It is very similar to Yofukashi no Uta in my opinion, of course without the whole vampire thing.
So welcome back to another edition of “Put This on Your Radar”, the series where we highlight upcoming animes we found interesting. Today we are talking about Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia. I will do the introduction and news in a combined section and then talk about why I think people should check out this anime. So, let’s get started.
What do we know about Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia?
Makoto Ojiro brought us this awesome manga. It started serialization back in May 2019 in the Big Comic Spirits magazine it is still ongoing of course. It is a silica of life manga about two friends who suffer from insomnia and hang around in their school’s observatory at the night. They help each with their insomnia while keeping company through the otherwise lonely night.
Moving on to the anime, the anime will be made by LIDENFILMS, a studio that I respect. Yes, their animations are hit or miss at times but, I like them nonetheless. Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia is being helmed by Ikeda Yuuki. He has most prominently worked on Arslan Senki and a few other anime. His work list is not too big but, I think he will do a fine job judging from Arslan Senki. The anime is set to air in Spring 2023 meaning sometime in April 2023. Spring season looks pretty loaded too, 2023 is a good year for anime.

My Thoughts
In short, I really look forward to this anime. I read the manga only for a little while to get a feel for what it is like. Now, I am saving the fun for the anime. Kimi wa Houkago is a very interesting take on a “romance” SOL manga; yes, it does feel similar to Yofukashi no Uta at times but, at the same time, it is different too. Because the setting of the night city is changed to a small observatory and all the vampire stuff is gone. I like the idea behind it and I think it should be a fun watch.
People like me itch for a good romance anime all the time, and this looks like a promising one so of course I will check it out when it drops.
