Key takeaways from Kaguya-sama Movie Review:
- The Kaguya-sama Movie: The First Kiss That Never Ends is a canon anime movie that serves as an aftermath/epilogue to season 3 and a bridge to season 4.
- The movie focuses on the character development of Kaguya and Miyuki, and features well-written interactions and perspectives on their feelings.
- The animations and soundtracks are consistent with the previous Kaguya-sama works, and the movie offers a good balance of comedy and seriousness. The overall rating of the movie is 8.5/10.
I have no idea when this movie even came out. But, it was released in December 2022 and I had no idea, somehow lol. Well, even if I did know, it wasn’t released in my country so I would have had to wait anyway. But the anime or non-theatrical release of Kaguya-sama Movie was released recently giving people like us a chance to finally check it out. It is in form of 4 episodes instead of a movie though but the content is the same so I am not complaining.
So welcome back to another one of my reviews. Today I am talking about the Kaguya-sama Movie: The First Kiss That Never Ends. Yes, this movie is indeed canon. by the way. It picks us right after Ultra Romanic (season 3). And will likely serve as a bridge to season 4; whenever it comes out. So let’s talk about it today.
Plot
As I said, the movie takes place right after Season 3. It pretty much serves as an aftermath/epilogue to season 3. And the plot isn’t the main focus here. Still, the setting of Christmas allows the movie to set a nice tone for itself. This contributes more to the plot than you may imagine at first.
This whole mini-arc is for Kguya’s character development and her coming to terms with her feelings. That is why I said, that the plot of this arc is not important. Still, if you are looking for something entertaining and funny, the first half will definitely suffice.
Characters
Now, this is where the main purpose of the movie lies. The character development we get for Miyuki and Kaguya is insane. Especially Kaguya; this arc is meant for her and sure enough, we get her perspective on everything. Think of the development Ishigami got in season 2; what we get in Kaguya-sama Movie is a better version of that but for Kaguya.
Her and Miyuki coming to terms after a few misunderstandings and awkward moments is really well written. That is not all, even Miko gets a bit of indirect character development which is pretty cool. So yeah, the character writing was amazing in this movie.
Animations and Soundtracks
Animations are nothing new. They are pretty much your usual Kaguya-sama animations. We got a lot of memes out of Kaguya-sama Movie too as always. Chibi Kaguya is probably the biggest one. The soundtracks are good as always too Masayuki Suzuki is back with another banger opening theme for the series and I love it.
Conclusion
Here are my final ratings for Kaguya-sama Movie: The First Kiss That Never Ends
- Plot – 7/10
- Characters – 9/10
- Animations – 8/10
- Soundtracks – 9/10 (I love Masayuki Suzuki)
- Enjoyment – 8/10
- Chini Kaguya – 10/10
- Overall – 8.5/10
So yeah, that is all for now. Overall I loved the Kaguya-sama movie. It was really well made and the balance of comedy and seriousness combined with the character writing made it worth every moment. Let me know what you guys think as this is all just my personal opinion. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
