JoJo Part 9, Manga Recommendation!

Key takeaways from Manga recommendation of the week – JoJo Part 9

  • My thoughts on this manga
  • Why you should check it out

Ah man, I totally forgot that this manga was already out. It is all good though, I just gave it a read and I am glad to say, Araki is back in full force. He ain’t pulling any punches with this part and if you thought JoJolion was weird, you ain’t seen nothing yet. JoJo Part 9 is everything you’d expect post reboot JoJo part to be like and so much more.

So welcome back to another edition of our manga recommendation series. This week we are talking about JoJo Part 9. I really recommend checking out Parts 7 and 8 before Part 9 (not the others, only 7 and 8). It is not necessary by any means but, knowing Parts 7 and 8 will help you connect the dots better and stuff. With that said, let’s get started.

JJBA City Hall」 — The JOJOLands, ch.1 - Jodio Joestar and 「NOVEMBER...

Introduction

As always, JoJo Part 9 is written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. It started its serialization just last month on Feb 17th. That means we only have one chapter as of writing this article with the 2nd one coming soon. The manga is being serialized in Ultra Jump and the new edition of it should drop sometime after the 15th. Given all this, the anime adaptation is quite a long while away lol.

Plot

So unlike other JoJos, this time our MC, Jodio Joestar starts off as kind of a more villainous character. He lives with his mother and brother and his job is that of a dealer. A dealer for what? Illegal substances (crack, most likely). One day his employer shows him a man carrying a diamond worth 6 million dollars. Normally, it would be impossible to steal but, Jodio has a stand.

So I like how this story starts off as kind of an antithesis to part 5. Giorno wanted to stop the drug trade but, Jodio sells drugs himself. Kind of cool. Jodio is probably the first JoJo after Giorno to actually use his stand for earning money. The stand abilities in this part are going to really complicated that’s for sure. We have only been shown 3 stands till now but all of them are interesting as hell. Cannot wait to see more of them.

Oh and, Dua Lipa and COVID are canon in this part lmao

Characters

Again, I really like how JoJo Part 9 is the complete opposite of Part 5. Jodio embodies this the best. His motivation to earn money and become rich is quite strong and he starts off as a straight-up criminal, unlike most other JoJos. I am really excited to see how his character development is shaped. Part 9 feels like the reboot equivalent of Part 5; in Part 5, Giorno was basically like a god, an incorruptible figure to his buddies. Let’s see what kind of twist Araki puts on that formula with Jodio.

Art

It is JoJo. If you have seen Part 7 or 8, you already know what to expect. I have to say though, over the years, Araki has really improved his art. Part 1’s art can’t even compare to JoJo Part 9. And I love the setting of Hawaii in this part.

Not from Part 9, but relevant

Why should you read JoJo Part 9?

Quick pointers on why you should check out this anime:

  • Good plot
  • Interesting characters
  • Interesting stand abilities
  • Just 1 chapter (at the time of writing)

Conclusion

That will be all for now. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. JoJo Part 9 looks pretty promising so far and I really look forward to seeing more of it. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!!
