You may have heard people say that the isekai genre is oversaturated. While I am not here to debate that, I still think the genre has great potential. And it has spawned a lot of memorable anime; directly or indirectly. I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World is another mediocre isekai in all aspects. It does present a new twist on the usual formula but the rest is pretty much what you’d expect. The thing is though, it hits. It hits home for me and I really enjoy watching it.
So welcome back to another one of my mid-season reviews. Today I will be talking about I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World. Episode 5 just came out at the time of writing and I will be basing this review on what I think so far. So let’s get started.
What do I think about I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World?
First, I was reading the manga for a bit the other day and noticed a few interesting deviations in the anime. I know the manga is not the source material, the LN is but still; humor me for a bit. So from the manga, the anime cut off a whole character lol. And like so many scenes played out radically differently in the manga. I know anime adaptations change stuff around most of the time but it is still pretty interesting.
As for the series proper, basically blend an OP MC isekai with a cool guy SOL anime and you get this. I do think that it is pretty cool that he can travel back and forth between our world and the isekai. And that he gets to keep all the abilities and stuff he takes with him. Had it been executed a bit differently, it would have been really good. Even now though, it is not too mad. As I said, this anime is the definition of ‘mid’. But it is still really fun to watch.
I think it is hilarious how every girl in existence is down bad for Yuuya. My man has more rizz than you or I could ever dream of. One small detail I do like though is that Yuuya still acts like his old self when he is not fighting. His body may have changed but his mind is the same, trying to catch up to the changes around him. His character development will be interesting if he gets any. Lastly, a quick shout-out to the opening and ending themes, they are awesome.
Conclusion
All in all, I think a score of 7 is perfect for I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World. Nothing too special but plain dumb fun to watch. That is my personal opinion though, let me know what you guys think in the comments. I will take my leave here. See ya!
