So welcome to the first proper review of spring 2022. We talked a lot about all of the spring anime during the past few weeks, this is one anime I didn’t talk about in a separate article though. Well, that was because I was trying to organize my thoughts about Honzuki season 3 all this time. I know it is a little early; we still have 3 episodes to go in the season. But, the list of anime to review this season is long and I didn’t speak of Honzuki till now so it is fitting that I start with this.
So well, here is my take on Honzuki season 3. Just my opinions, so you are free to disagree with me. But seriously, this season could’ve been a lot better. Let’s get into some details here. And of course,ย minor spoilers ahead.
Plot
Honzuki season 3 basically has the same plot as the LN from this part. It shows the last few months of Main together with her family before she’s sent for adoption by a noble. A lot of other stuff does happen and we do see some action but, something feels missing. The drive and the pace from the first 2 seasons feel very much lacking from season 3.
Now, I know that the slow down of the plot is intentional at this point as the author wanted to give some time to characters and world-building. But the emotional impact this arc had in the LN feels missing from the Honzuki anime. I dont know what it is, maybe it is the direction or maybe they didn’t give it enough time to hit you. But, you were supposed to have an emotional connection with the characters through this arc, and yet it feels bland in the anime. Even though it is following the exact same story as the LN.
Characters
Honzuki season 3 featured a lot of character development. Almost every important character got some time in the character development oven. There were some new characters introduced as well and I have to say, I quite like some of them. But you know, even after all this, the emotional connection you are supposed to have to Main feels missing. You could feel her sorrow and confusion about leaving her family in the LN but, that feels missing here.
Animations and Soundtracks
No complaints here. Honzuki anime has always had this really bright and cheerful kind of art style/vibe. And I like it, it translates very well to the anime from the LN. Once again, I really like the opening and ending themes of the season. They always have good choices in OST. And ofc, I love the voice acting. They have 2 of my favorite VAs as main characters so that makes me really happy.
Conclusion
My final rating for Honzuki season 3 are:
- Plot – 5/10
- Characters – 6/10
- Animations – 8/10
- Soundtracks – 7/10
- Enjoyment – 6/10
- Season 4 will be better – 10/10
- Overall – 6/10
Well, I know it is a transition arc and something big is coming very soon. And now that I’ve seen what parts work well in anime and what don’t, I am certain season 4 will be better. That is all I had to say for now. Of course, these are just my opinions so let me know what you thought in the comments. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!!
