Key takeaways from Manga Recommendation – Go Go Loser Ranger:
- “Go Go Loser Ranger” is a manga by Haruba Negi, known for “The Quintessential Quintuplets,” offering a unique twist on the Power Rangers concept.
- The story follows Rangers who force monster prisoners to cause trouble for their own entertainment, but takes a dark turn when an infiltrator seeks revenge from within.
- Despite a mismatched art style, the manga delivers an engaging plot, well-developed characters, and a mix of action and suspense. An anime adaptation is also in the works.
We all know Power Rangers, right? Most of us probably grew up watching multiple seasons of the show. Many people still don’t know that the shows are basically Westernized versions of the Japanese Super Sentai. Hence, there is a decent amount of power rangers anime/manga. But, I don’t think I have seen a more messed up take on the Power Rangers theme than Go Go Loser Ranger.
This is why I love this job because I stumble onto gold sometimes, just like this. When I saw who the author was it surprised me lol.
So welcome back to another edition of our manga recommendation series. Today we are talking about Go Go Loser Ranger. So let’s get started.
Introduction
Go Go Loser Ranger or Sentai Daishikkaku is written and illustrated by Haruba Negi. The name sound familiar? Yep, it is the author of The Quintessential Quintuplets. The manga has been sterilized in the Weekly Shounen magazine since February 2021. An anime adaptation for the manga has been announced by Yostar Pictures and the trailer we got for it looked incredible. We don’t have a release date for it yet but by all means, you can wait for the anime to come out if you want.
The trailer for the anime:
Plot
In this manga, the Rangers have defeated all of their enemies. But now they don’t have anything to do, so they force the monster prisoners to cause trouble so that they can beat up the monsters in front of their fans. One monster every week. Our MC is one of these monsters, he infiltrates the rangers so that he could crush them from the inside and put an end to all this.
That is a messed up plot if I’ve ever seen one. What is up with these romance authors going from writing romance to writing something messed up af like this? First, it was Aka with Kaguya-sama and Oshi no Ko, now it is Negi. The plot is really good thought. It has action, suspense, and some nice edge-of-the-seat moments. It is paced rather well too so it keeps you turning pages.
Characters
Man, I don’t know how to say it lightly but this series is full of a$$holes. The author does an amazing job of writing some truly detestable characters. And the MC is out for revenge, the bonding, and understanding between him and the yellow ranger is well done. And there are some nice character moments throughout the manga as well with some good character development for the MC.
Art
Art is one aspect where this manga takes a hit though. Negi hasn’t really changed his art style from The Quintessential Quintuplets, so despite being a dark action manga, the art still resembles a romance manga. This is not fun and in certain scenes, it looks pretty jarring. Fortunately, though, the anime looks like it is changing the art style to fit the tone. I really hope the anime keep the same quality as the trailer when it releases.
