Key Takeaways from Buddy Daddies Review:
- My Thoughts and opinions on the series
- Should you watch it or not
I have a slight weakness for original animes. I wasn’t planning on picking up this anime but ended up doing so regardless when I saw that it’s an original anime. And look, if you thought the Spy x Family comparison was a joke, not it’s not a joke. Buddy Daddies is very much like Spy x Family in more than one way.
So welcome to another one of my reviews, today we are talking about Buddy Daddies. Yes, slightly early for the review but, I doubt my feeling about this anime will change much in the remaining 4 episodes. I could’ve done a mid-season review but like, it’s too late for that. Anyway, though, let’s get started right away.
Plot
So Buddy Daddies is pretty much exactly like Spy x Family but, the parents are 2 friends Rei and Kazuki instead of a pretentious couple. Rei and Kazuki work as mercenaries and they try their best to hide that fact from Miri and keep her away from danger. Miri’s actual father got killed by Kazuki during a mission so he feels obliged to take care of her.
That plot doesn’t go much deeper than that. It’s a simple straightforward plot. One thing I do like about it is that we actually get to see Rei and Kazuki working. They won’t let you forget that they’re still mercenaries even when they’re looking after Miri. It is a decent plot and I like the reason that Miri is with them, they even tried to deliver to her real mother. Kazuki and Rei are only keeping her because there is no other option.
Characters
Now, Kazuki is the protag, right? So obviously he gets a lot of character development. But my man, Rei? He is at first indifferent towards Miri but then he sees himself in her somewhere and started actually caring for her. Miri is a kid of course so she doesn’t get much character development but, I do like her. She acts perfectly normal for a 4-year-old kid. Circling back to Kazuki, I wished he got some more character development. His character is well-written but, he doesnt develop as much as Rei.
Animations and Soundtracks
PA Works has been doing a fairly good job when it comes to Buddy Daddies. The animations are pretty smooth, I really dig the character designs too. The art style in general is pretty neat. The soundtracks are pretty good too with the opening theme, in particular, being something that ended up on my personal playlist.
Conclusion
My final scores for Buddy Daddies are:
- Plot – 7/10
- Characters – 7/10
- Animations – 8/10
- Soundtracks – 8/10
- Enjoyment – 7/10
- Gamer Dad – 10/10
- Overall – 7/10
All in all, pretty solid anime. I really recommend at least giving a chance to Buddy Daddies. Yes, it is not as stroking as Spy x Family, if you something similar to the show while you wait for season 2 though, this is the thing for you. Well, those were my thoughts and opinions on Buddy Daddies. Let me know yours in the comments, I will take my leave here. See ya!
