Bokutachi no Remake is undoubtedly my favorite new anime of the season. It is my 2nd favorite anime of this season overall, right behind TenSura. It is full of such unexpected stuff. At first, I only thought of it as another ReLIFE rip-off but no, the anime managed to prove me wrong. Bokutachi no Remake is much better than just that.
Before we even start the review, I really recommend this anime. It is just awesome. The review is completely spoiler-free so you don’t have to worry. With that out of the way, let’s get started.
Plot
Bokutachi no Remake is about Hashiba Kyoya. Kyoya worked as a game developer but he lost his internship after the project he was working on was scrapped by the company. He returns to his parents’ house and regrets his life choices and choosing a traditional university instead of an arts college. One day when he wakes up, he is 10 years in the past. This time, he decides to choose the arts college.
The plot sounds very cliché and all but is very well-paced. It brings out the characters really well. That is all fine and dandy but then, the plot twist at the end of episode 8 strikes, and literally, everything changes. The story literally goes from “Yeah this fun, I guess” to “Holy shit, this is interesting. Tell me more, NOW!” that’s how good of a plot twist it is. A lot of unexpected stuff happens in the story itself though even if Bokutachi no Remake does have a few clichés.

Characters
There aren’t a lot of characters but, the main 5-6 main characters are really good. They have their strengths and weaknesses. They all show some sort of “problems” that artists usually suffer from. Kyoya himself isn’t an artist, he is more of a manager sort of person but he knows how to bring artists back on track.
At some point, it seems like Kyoya is a perfect character but that’s not the case. The later episodes really showcase that he is a human and can make mistakes. At that point, he is also confronted with the choice of which future he likes more. I won’t say anymore as that will go into high spoiler territory. But yeah, Bokutachi no Remake did characters really well.
Animations and Soundtrack
The animations and art style are awesome. I mean “feel” did the animations and they are the best when it comes to this sort of anime. The eyes of different characters really stand out. They look beautiful. The eyes really do reflect the character really well.
As far as the soundtrack is concerned, nothing really stands out. The opening and ending are good but that’s about it. There are no crazy BGMs or anything like that. Not to say they are bad, they just don’t stand out.
Conclusion
My final scores for Bokutachi no Remake are:
- Plot – 9/10 (just because of the damn plot twists)
- Characters – 8/10
- Animations – 9/10
- Soundtrack – 8/10
- Enjoyment – 10/10
- Episode 8 – 10/10
- Overall – 9/10
