I really do have a soft spot for original anime. They have no source material so they tend to experiment with a lot of stuff. I know a lot of the times they are kind of ‘eh’ but sometimes we get gold on our hands like Lycoris Recoil or Vivy. Ayaka right here looks to be pretty interesting. The name is what grabbed my attention first then the art style made my interest stronger.
So, welcome back to another edition of our Put This on Your Radar series. A series where we talk about the upcoming anime that caught our eyes. Today we will be talking about Ayak, an upcoming original anime that I think should be interesting to check out. So let’s get started on it.
What do we know about Ayaka?
This is an original anime project by Studio Blanc. This is the same studio that worked on stuff like The Strongest Excorcist in the World and Uramichi-oniisan. They have done a lot of sus stuff too but I will ignore that for now. This anime is created by the group, GoRA. It is a group of 7 authors who previously worked on the massively underrated, K. And the show will be directed by Nagayama Nobuyoshi.
Ayaka is supposed to come out in the summer season of this year. So the release date will be sometime in July. The show will star VAs like Uemura Yuuto and Trumi Kousuke. The story is about a bunch of guys trying to protect a group of islands called the Ayakajima, You can check out the latest PV of the anime here.
What do I think?
The name drew me in because of a certain character from Genshin Impact who I main. No points for guessing the name of the character lol. Anyhow, once I got past the name, I really liked the aesthetics and character design of this series. I don’t know how good it will look once it comes out but, I am willing to give it a chance for sure.
Hopefully, we get to see some Omyouji-based action; judging from the outfits of the characters. I feel like Omyouji is something that not many animes have experimented with so it could be fun if this anime does it in an entertaining manner. I don’t expect the story to be too good but, then again, K did surprise me quite a bit back in the day so there is always a chance I guess.
