Of course, almost all of us have watched this anime. Of course, I’ve talked about it before. But that is the charm of Ansatsu Kyoshitsu, right? You can come back to this any time for all the humor and the nostalgia. And if you want to further, you can even stay for the hard-hitting ending. I’ve rewatched this anime countless times (not always all the way to the end of course) at this point and I never get bored of it.
So welcome back to another edition of our anime recommendation series. This week we are talking about one of my favorite animes of all time, Ansatsu Kyoshitsu or Assassination Classroom. This series really does have a special place in my heart. So let’s talk about it!
Introduction
Ansatsu Kyoshitsu is of course based on the manga of the same name by Yusei Matsui. The anime is 2 seasons or 47 episodes long. It originally ran from January 2015 to June 2016. And it was made by Lerche studios. This is a shonen anime, first and foremost. Now inside that, it is mostly comedy but it dabbles a bit in sci-fi, and since it’s a shonen, some action.
Plot
So the moon has a big hole blown through it, and no one knows who or what did it. But the students of class 3E of Kunigaoka Junior High School are told the truth and meet face-to-face with the monster who destroyed the moon. He now threatens to destroy the Earth next. So why was he introduced to the class? Well, because he’ll be teaching them! And the students will be trying to kill him!
Right off the bat, Ansatsu Kyoshitsu has a rather funny premise. You know like “why is this octopus thing obsessed with teaching this particular class?” “why didn’t he just destroy the Earth?”. The answer to all of these questions becomes clear down the line. The plot is very straightforward, with some cool details and a beautiful ending. And the little twists are pretty entertaining to watch as well.
Characters
Ansatsu Kyoshitsu has aย lotย of different characters. I love the fact that the author went out of his way to give distinct personality, traits, strengths, and weaknesses to each student of class 3E. There are a few characters you see more than others yes but, every student gets at least one moment to shine and that is pretty cool. Outside of that, Koro-sensei by far is one of the best anime teachers of all time. As a teacher, he doesn’t really change himself throughout the series but he helps his students grow. And he has a really good backstory as well.
Animations and Soundtracks
Ansatsu Kyoshitsu has pretty average animations and art styles. Koro-sensei’s character design is probably the most unique thing about the art style but that’s about it, nothing more to say. They’re not bad, just nothing special. Now as for the soundtracks though, Ansatsu Kyoshitsu has some of the opening themes ever. Especially the first and last opening themes are just epic. They represent the tone shift in the anime really well.
Why should you watch Ansatsu Kyoshitsu?
Quick pointers on why you should check out this anime:
- Great plot
- Awesome characters
- Rally funny
- Well paced
- Koro-sensei
Conclusion
Well, that is it for now. Let me know in the comments what you guys think. Ansatsu Kyoshitsu is an anime that is really close to my heart, I really like revisiting this series from time to time. With that said though, I will take my leave here. See ya!!
