Key Takeaways from Anime Recommendation – Anohana:
- Quick info on this anime
- Why you should watch it
Yes, I have decided to deal some emotional damage this week. Pretty sure most of us have at least heard of this anime. Like even if you haven’t watched Anohana yourself, its reputation is enough to where you’d have at least heard about it. You know that it is a really sad anime and today, I am going to have to ask you to check it out hehe.
So welcome back to another edition of our anime recommendation series. This week we are talking about Anohana. One of the very few anime that genuinely made me tear up. Pretty sure I died a little on the inside because of how sad this anime’s ending was. Goes without saying, this anime is pretty close to my heart because of all that. So, let’s get started.
Introduction
Anohana is an original anime by A1 Pictures. Yes, one of the most famous animes out there, is an original anime lol. It has both LN and manga adaptations, you can check those out too. The LN came out slightly after the anime in 2011 itself, the manga came out the following year in 2012. A1 Pictures did a fantastic job making an anime this influential.
Plot
So Anohana is about a group of childhood friends who lost the glue of their group, Menma. All the friends grow more and more distant from one another as they grow older after Menma’s death. One of these friends, our MC, Jinta can see Menma’s ghost though and there are some things she wants him to do so that she may be to pass on peacefully.
The death of a close friend is always a very sensitive topic. It is something I have been through myself so this anime hits me that much more. You would think that the passing on of an already dead character cannot make you feel sad, but it does. The way Anohana’s plot is executed is a sure-shot way of making anyone even remotely invested in the anime feel like crying. It is beautiful.
Characters
Now, this is another important part of Anohana’s impact. The character writing is just superb. I love how each friend has their own way of dealing with Menma’s death and a way to mourn her on their own. She was the gel that bound the group together, the moment she was gone, everyone became separated and everyone misses her. Her character throughout the story and the way she leads the character development of her friends, helping them move on from her death is fantastic.
Animations and Soundtracks
The animations are alright and the art style is pretty average too. But, because of the writing, it works. The soundtracks though… this anime has some of the hardest-hitting soundtracks. The soundtracks are so effective that they will make you emotional even after you finish the anime.
Why should you watch Anohana?
Quick pointers on why you should check out this anime:
- Good plot
- Great characters
- Awesome soundtracks
- Emotional damage
Conclusion
That is all for now. Let me know what you think in the comments. I love Anohana, even though I don’t have the courage to rewatch it. But well, I will take my leave here now. See ya!!
