I feel like among all the rom-coms recently, this is a perfect time to revisit this masterpiece. I found out about this series well…thanks to its interesting title and of course, Muse Asia. I’ve to admit, I never expected HigeHirou to turn out as good as it did. It sounded and very much looked like a typical rom-com on the surface but then, the series really drew me in.
Welcome back to another edition of our weekly anime recommendation series. This week, we are taking a look at HigeHirou. It is hands down one of the best romance animes out there; rom-coms aside, this is easily one of my top 5 romance anime. So well, let’s talk about it today.
Introduction
HigeHirou is based on the LN of the same name, written by Shimesaba and illustrated by booota. The anime aired in the spring 2021 season and it is just 13 episodes long. The story is completed within these 13 episodes; so you dont have to worry about waiting for another season. You can also watch this anime completely for free on YouTube through Muse Asia.
HigeHirou is one of the best-written romantic anime I’ve seen. The ending, while heartbreaking is very good, the characters are great and most of all, the series ends very timely. Nothing is dragged out for very long in the series. Let’s get into some more details.
Plot
HigeHirou follows a guy named Yoshida who gets really drunk one night after being rejected by a girl he likes. He finds a homeless high-school girl on the street while returning home. He agrees to let her stay at his place for a while because of being drunk. Later, he finds out that she ran from her house because of some personal circumstances and has stayed in the houses of a lot of different guys. Yoshida then takes it upon himself to straighten up the girl and send her back to her home.
As I mentioned earlier, HigeHirou has a really good plot and it is very well-paced. Nothing is dragged out longer than it needs to be. There are more than plenty of plot twists and everything goes hand-in-hand with the character development of Sayu or Yoshida. All these things combine to make HigeHirou a great experience.
Characters
HigeHirou doesn’t have that many characters but, the few it does have are really well written. Like, even Yoshida’s best friend who doesn’t have much story importance is also pretty well written. Yoshida himself and especially Sayu get a lot of character development throughout the series. Sayu really learns the importance of herself back through Yosida-san, and Yoshida-san finds what he was missing through Sayu. I also love Yoshida because he is willing to make sacrifices for what is right instead of how he feels; he is a great character overall.
Animations and Soundtrack
HigeHirou has above-average animations for a romance anime. The animations didn’t need to be as good but, they are and in some scenes, they really do show off their animations. I like it. The art style of the series is also pretty good. Soundtracks arent that memorable though, I can’t really recall a good OST; the opening theme is great though. I still listen to it.
Why should you watch HigeHirou?
Quick pointers on why you should check out this anime:

Conclusion
Welp, that is all I had to say for now. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I really love HigeHirou and I felt like it would be a good time to revisit it. With that said though, I will take my leave here. See ya!
